FORMER CIA GRADUATE FINDS THE SWEET LIFE IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL
Manassas, VA, December 28, 2006 – Culinary Institute of America alumna Melanie Wanders (Zee) and her husband, Wilhelm Wanders, have found the sweet life in the nation’s capital. The two opened Chocolaterie Wanders in October 2006 in Manassas, Virginia, about 35 miles west of Washington, DC.
Continuing the century-long family tradition of producing fine artisanal products, Wilhelm and Melanie Wanders are proud to introduce Chocolaterie Wanders to the Hudson Valley — a way to savor the Old World through deliciously exquisite handcrafted confections.
Since 1726 the Wanders Family of Elten, Germany has produced world-class chocolates, pastries and savories throughout Europe. Master Chocolatier Wilhelm and his wife Chef Melanie, strive to redefine the quality of American artisanal chocolates. Every stage of production is done by hand, including the mixing, pouring, cutting, piping, and enrobing of ganaches, as well as the final decoration and adornment of each confection. By combining traditional European chocolate production methods with fresh, local ingredients, they are able to provide their customers with daily luxurious and exclusive edible rewards.
Unique only to Chocolaterie Wanders is their in-house production of nut marzipans and nougat. Chocolaterie Wanders refrains from using any additional fats or vegetable oils in their chocolates, and relies solely on pure cocoa butter for superior shine and “snap.” Their confections are flavored using only wholesome, natural ingredients such as fresh fruit purees and carefully selected herbs and spices. No preservatives, artificial flavorings or concentrates are used.
